So many times I have talked about the dangers of moving too often between dimensions and time lines when photographically investigating people, stories, possible events or concepts, like I do. And God knows I had passed the limit. If anyone would have asked at any time, I would've completely rejected the possibility of doing it again, unless for going back to pre colombian Peru or pre captain Cook Hawai'i. Well, I did anyway it for Athens, my home city, a place I usually hate, a place I am bound -don't ask me by what- to return to. Of course the reason wasn't real, it was just a department store's spring window decorations. But what is real anyway?
Secret meetings very often take place in museums and that's why those are ideal places to meet photographic investigators like me... This time it was the Acropolis Museum in Athens and it was me who was being stalked... And I am saying "stalked" because to be investigated demands a lot more skills than the guy who was following me possessed. Stalkers and wannabe "investigators" of photographic investigators make me feel sorry for them... a feeling of decadence fills my heart and instead of running away, I indulge them. I could never see as an equal a person who would want to investigate me... so I let them have what they want, knowing they will get nothing in the end. In that context, I was wandering in this beautiful museum of minimalistic architecture and I didn't mind at all pretending to be a tourist.... it was a hot noon in Athens and inside it was wonderfully cool.
Sometimes a photographic investigation goes sideways… There is no reason to feel bad. You can always catch some breathtaking, unanticipated shots of a fading, rising or setting sun.
I believe there is an ELO song for every possible situation in life… I have realised this during a long, lonely summer a few years ago, listening almost exclusively to Electric Light Orchestra. Walking around in Athens a few days before the referendum of the 5th of July and taking photos of the beautiful Silver Gold, this ELO song was playing incessantly in my mind. Indeed… and what a showdown it would be… Living in interesting times was never easy.
